Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers Discontinued, Existing Vouchers Remain Valid
Nintendo has discontinued sales of Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers, but players who purchased vouchers before the cutoff can continue to use them until their normal expiration dates.
According to Nintendo’s support documentation, Game Vouchers were available for purchase until 11:59 PM Pacific Time on January 30, 2026. Each previously purchased voucher remains valid for 12 months from its original purchase date.
This means that some vouchers will continue to be usable into 2027. Nintendo gives the example of vouchers purchased on January 30, 2026, which remain valid until January 30, 2027.
Existing Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers Remain Valid
The end of sales does not cancel Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers that players already own. Valid, unexpired vouchers purchased on or before January 30 can still be redeemed.
Nintendo has not changed the standard expiration period. Each voucher remains valid for 12 months from the date it was purchased, so the exact deadline depends on the individual purchase date.
There is also an important Nintendo Switch Online requirement. Players must have an active, paid Nintendo Switch Online membership when redeeming a valid Game Voucher.
As a result, anyone with unused vouchers should check the expiration date and make sure their paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is active before attempting to redeem them.
What the Discontinuation Means for Players
The January 30 deadline applies to purchases of new Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers rather than the redemption of vouchers already owned by players.
For example, someone who purchased vouchers several months before the deadline will have an earlier expiration date than someone who bought them on January 30. Vouchers purchased on the final day can remain valid until January 30, 2027.
Nintendo has not announced an extension to the 12-month validity period, so players with unused vouchers should follow the expiration date associated with their original purchase.
The discontinuation notice applies specifically to Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers. It does not state that Nintendo Switch Online itself or other Nintendo digital products are being discontinued.
Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers and eShop Gift Cards Are Different
Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers should not be confused with Nintendo eShop Gift Cards. They are separate products, and Nintendo’s discontinuation announcement specifically concerns the Game Voucher program.
This distinction is particularly important for players looking for other ways to make digital Nintendo purchases after Game Voucher sales have ended. Nintendo eShop Gift Cards are not part of the discontinued Game Voucher program and should not be presented as the same product or as an official replacement for it.
Players considering an eShop Gift Card should check the conditions of the particular product, including its currency and regional requirements.
What Players With Remaining Vouchers Should Do
Players who still have Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers do not need to take action simply because new sales have stopped. Instead, they should check when their vouchers were originally purchased and determine the corresponding 12-month expiration date.
They should also confirm that they have an active, paid Nintendo Switch Online membership before redemption. Provided both requirements are met, Nintendo says previously purchased vouchers can continue to be redeemed after the January 30, 2026 sales cutoff.
For vouchers purchased on the final day of availability, that redemption window can extend as far as January 30, 2027.
Nintendo Digital Options After the Game Voucher Discontinuation
The discontinuation marks the end of new Nintendo Switch Game Voucher purchases, but existing vouchers will remain relevant until the last of them reach their individual expiration dates.
For players looking for other Nintendo digital products, Baxity Store offers Nintendo eShop Gift Cards in several available denominations and currencies, along with selected Nintendo Switch Online membership products.
These products are separate from Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers. Before purchasing a digital code, buyers should check its currency and regional requirements to make sure it is suitable for the intended Nintendo Account.
