Roblox Introduces New Account Categories

Roblox has announced a series of new safety and account management features aimed at younger users. Beginning in June 2026, the platform will introduce two new account categories, Roblox Kids and Roblox Select, while also expanding parental controls and age verification requirements.

The changes are part of Roblox’s efforts to create age-appropriate experiences for younger audiences and strengthen safety measures across the platform.Roblox Introduces New Account Categories

New Account Types for Younger Users

The new Roblox Kids category is designed for children between the ages of 5 and 8. Accounts in this group will have chat disabled by default and will only be able to access experiences labeled with minimal or mild content maturity ratings.

Roblox Select is intended for users aged 9 to 15. These accounts will have access to chat features under Roblox’s existing communication rules, including restrictions based on age differences between users, and will be able to access experiences rated up to the moderate content level.

The platform will also introduce additional requirements for user-created experiences available to these younger audiences. Developers will be required to complete identity verification, and eligible experiences will be subject to ongoing evaluation. Certain categories of content, including sensitive issues, social hangout experiences, and free-form drawing games, will not be permitted within these age-focused categories.

Expanded Parental Controls

Roblox is also enhancing its parental control tools. Parents and guardians will be able to allow or block specific experiences and directly manage chat settings for users up to 15 years old.

The company also noted that the new account categories will feature distinct visual designs. Roblox Kids accounts will use a blue interface background intended to make parental oversight easier.

Age Verification Continues to Expand

Roblox has continued expanding its age verification system across the platform. Users can verify their age through methods that include a video selfie analyzed by software or by submitting a government-issued identification document.

The company first introduced age verification requirements for chat access in October 2025 and expanded the requirement globally in January 2026. Users who do not complete the verification process are unable to access communication features on the platform.

Roblox stated that personal information used during age verification is deleted after the verification process is completed.

Safety Technology and Moderation Efforts

The company continues to invest in automated safety systems designed to identify potentially harmful behavior. Roblox highlighted the role of its Sentinel artificial intelligence technology, which is used to detect activity associated with child safety risks and other forms of policy violations.

Roblox stated that its automated systems now identify a substantial portion of suspicious activity across the platform, supporting moderation and safety efforts.

The company also noted that its chat system remains subject to monitoring and does not allow the sharing of images or videos through chat.

New Features Arrive in June

The new account categories, expanded parental controls, and age verification measures are expected to begin rolling out in June 2026.

The updates represent Roblox’s latest efforts to introduce additional safeguards for younger users while providing parents with greater oversight of how children interact with the platform.
