Activision has announced plans to discontinue support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Call of Duty: Warzone later in 2026. Players using older consoles will need to upgrade to a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S/X console to continue playing the battle royale title once Season 6 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 concludes later this year.
Warzone to Be Removed From Older Console Storefronts
The first phase of the transition will begin on June 4, when Call of Duty: Warzone is scheduled to be removed from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One digital storefronts. After that date, the game will no longer be available for download on those platforms.
Activision will take an additional step on June 25 by removing the in-game store from the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Warzone. Existing players will still be able to access the game temporarily before support is fully discontinued.
Support Ends With the Launch of Modern Warfare 4 Season 1
According to Activision, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Warzone will no longer be playable once Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 begins later in 2026.
The change marks the end of Warzone support on last-generation consoles, requiring remaining players on those platforms to move to newer hardware in order to continue playing the game.
The transition also comes after both Sony and Microsoft increased the prices of their current console models compared to their original launch prices.
Modern Warfare 4 Announced for PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and Switch 2
Activision announced the Warzone support changes on the same day it revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
The upcoming title will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Modern Warfare 4 will become the first Call of Duty title released on Nintendo Switch 2 following the 10-year agreement Microsoft reached with Nintendo during the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard.
